Nahata Jogendranath Mondal Smriti Mahavidyalaya is a Co-educational Institution at Nahata in the district of North 24 Parganas.
The department of Commerce was affiliated in October 1986 to the University of Calcutta vide Letter No. 1772 EDN (CS), dated 20/10/1986. The first male and female students of Commerce department who have completed graduation courses are Manoroanjan Sinha and Sikha Sarkar.
From the academic session 2008-09, all the 59 colleges in the district of North 24 Parganas, which were formerly affiliated with the University of Calcutta, are affiliated to West Bengal State University, which was introduced through the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Legislative Assembly Act XXVIII, 2007. And then from the academic session 2008-09, the department of Commerce of Nahata Jogendranath Mondal Smriti Mahavidyalaya is affiliated to the West Bengal State University.
The syllabus and pattern of examination in the Commerce department have been changing over time. As per direction of the West Bengal State University, CBCS was introduced from the academic session 2018-19 and NEP was started in the academic session 2023-24 in the Commerce department.
At present, there are two full time faculties in Commerce, one full time faculty in Economics and two Govt. approved SACT faculties in this department. Apart from conventional teaching viz., chalk, board and duster; laptop, projector etc. are also used as teaching aid.
The department has organized seminars, workshops and academic excursion in industry. The department very recently has taken initiatives to publish Working Paper series bi-annually. The department has also arranged departmental meeting, parent-teacher meeting, career counseling and tutorial classes to support the students. Students belonging to SCs/STs/Minorities have been receiving scholarships from Govt. as per norm. The poor students also get financial assistance and concessions from poor fund and students’ fund of the college.
Text books, references and journals (both softcopy and hardcopy) on different papers in Commerce have been stocked in the Central library. Students also get access to online Journals in their subjects through N-list. Statistical database viz., SPSS, STATA are also available in the Central Library.
In recent past, the number of students in the Commerce stream has been decreasing gradually particularly in rural areas in our State as well as our affiliated University. Our college is not an exception. However, the department is trying its best to make good and steady performances.
The vision of the department is to excel in academics through quality education in Commerce and related fields, in accordance with the NEP directives of holistic development of a student.

Student progression
There is no institutional procedure for tracking the progression of the students. Recently, the department has taken initiatives to form whatsup group which include ex-students of the department. Thus, the department will be able to keep track of progression of students in future.
Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning
Projector, Computer & Internet facilities are frequently used for comprehensive teaching. Lecture method is normally followed. Apart from this, tutorial classes at regular intervals and home assignments are also arranged by the faculties.
