The Department of Economics of Nahata J.N.M.S. Mahavidyalaya had started its journey more than Thirty Five years ago. As per West Bengal State University (affiliating university), Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been there with the General courses. Practically two faculties teach the students of Economics. Apart from the HoD, the department finds Prof. Ranajit Maiti as a full-time teacher in Economics who happens to be the faculty from the Department of Commerce.The faculty members have research interest in Gender Inequality, Human Development, Health Economics, Development Economics etc. Here the students do attend classes regularly across all the semesters and besides that they participate in several other activities like delivering seminars, observing important days or week like Environment issues which have close connection with Economics.The department is trying to organize
extension lectures on pandemic and issues in connection with that.
The vision of the Department is to elaborate the scope of teaching as well as research so that it can reach the next level by achieving certain targeted milestones. That also pre-supposes certain touching a level of excellence among the students and the teaching staffs.
The basic mission of the department is to sustain an effort which will ensure the best level of teaching and the introduction to some elementary research area so that the students can get the opportunity for learning the subject as well as find some interest in the primary research activities.

B.A./B.Sc. (Minor) (NEP-2020) for SEM-II students
Apart from the regular courses two Value added courses were arranged for the students across
different semester students on Basic Tools of Research Methodology in relation with Project
Work and Applications with Descriptive Statistics and ‘Poverty, Gender and Economic
Development’.
